A doctoral student in Associate Professor Dipanjan Pan's lab, Fatemeh Ostadhossein has been selected to receive a prestigious two-year pre-doctoral fellowship from the American Heart Association.
Ostadhossein is developing a novel way to detect and treat bacterial infections in the heart through the use of antimicrobial nanoparticles. More generally, she works at the interface of materials engineering and bioengineering to develop Theranostic nanoparticles. These nanoparticles can diagnose the disease at early stage and then can act therapeutically to fight the disease.
The highly competitive AHA fellowships are designed to help initiate careers in cardiovascular and stroke research.
