The Bioengineering Department at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign participates in several levels of design across programs from our undergraduate senior capstone design in the Bioengineering Bachelors program, the Professional Capstone in the Master of Engineering in Bioengineering, and the Capstone Course in the Carle-Illinois College of Medicine. To create the best experience for students, we offer our Capstone Project as a design continuum of biomedical-focused project teams that mimic workplace organizational structure.

Given the nature of the M.Eng. training and the fact that students are enrolled in capstone for two semesters, M.Eng. students are ideal for taking on a managerial role in the capstone projects. The M.Eng. curriculum includes principles of design, management, and improvement of business operations and product innovations. Strategies and techniques for managing processes, projects, process improvement, and new product development are also emphasized in these courses. M.Eng. students gain essential hands-on experience in applying these skills to their capstone projects as well as managing undergraduate students who are serving in technical roles.
