Tumors are dynamic ecosystems composed of various cell types and a surrounding physical matrix that influence tumor growth, drug delivery, and metastasis. Bioengineering professor Susan Leggett is advancing the study of tumor-environment interactions by developing customizable 3D-printed fluidic devices, or "tumor chips," which mimic the mechanical and biochemical conditions of real tissues. This innovative approach combines biology, engineering, and data science to deepen understanding of tumor mechanics and improve accessibility to advanced tumor models.
