The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) has recognized University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) bioengineering professor Rebecca Reck for her impact on the Society as well as the engineering community with the Emerging Engineering Educator Award, which recognizes an individual who has demonstrated instructional excellence in engineering, technology, or science.  Reck accepted the award at SWE’s annual conference, WE23, which was held this October in Los Angeles.

The Emerging Engineering Educator Award recognized Reck for her pioneering research-based laboratory course reforms; leadership in scholarship and teaching; and outstanding service in technical and professional societies, including SWE.

“Receiving this award is a recognition of the fact that the work that I'm doing is important and appreciated by the broader engineering community,” said Reck. “It is definitely an incentive and driver to continue this work and continue down the path of helping the broader community in this area.”

The award also recognizes Reck’s continuing dedication to SWE’s mission – striving to highlight the impact and importance of women in engineering across the globe, leading by example, and demonstrating that a career in engineering can be a fulfilling, rewarding pursuit for women of any background.

"SWE Awards provide a platform to elevate and highlight career, academic, and service achievements of engineers and technologists that advance the mission of SWE through inspiring others,” said Alexis McKittrick, Ph.D. and FY24 President of SWE. “These award winners are shining examples for our members and the entire engineering community of how to live without limits, and I look forward to celebrating their achievements."
