Ph.D. in Bioengineering
For Students Entering Prior to Fall 2024
Entering with approved bachelor’s degree only
(Stage 1 – 96 total credit hours)
- Complete the core curriculum - 21 credit hours
- 400/500 technical electives - 20 credit hours (at least 12 hours must be engineering graduate-level technical elective courses)
- BIOE 599 (research credit) - 55 credit hours
- Pass exams (qualifying, preliminary, final)
- Complete dissertation with committee approval
Entering with approved bachelor’s and master’s degrees
(Stage 2 – 64 total credit hours)
- BIOE 500, 501, 502 are required - 4 hours total (BIOE 500 taken twice)
- 400/500 technical electives - 8 credit hours (BIOE 504 and 505 are strongly encouraged)
- BIOE 599 (research credit) - 52 credit hours
- Pass exams (qualifying, preliminary, final)
- Complete dissertation with committee approval
