General Bioengineering Curriculum

The broad range of courses offered allows for customization of the curriculum through multiple tracks that enable students to focus their experience within their field of greatest interest.  During the Fall and Spring semesters, students will take BIOE 570, BIOE 573, BIOE 574 and BIOE 575 as required courses.  The remaining credit hours are used for approved graduate-level elective courses that will provide in-depth learning in other technical areas.  Students are allowed to take up to 20 total credit hours per semester (combination of required and approved electives) without an overload approval.

Fall Semester

  • BIOE 570 – Seminar series (1 credit hour)
  • BIOE 573 –Managing Business Operations (4 hours) – Covers fundamental business concepts, including project management, process management, supply chain management and product development.
  • BIOE 575 – Team Project – part 1 (3 credit hours)
  • Technical Electives – choose BIOE 400- or 500-level courses in consultation with advisor (4-8 credit hours)
  • General Elective – choose 400- or 500-level course in consultation with advisor (4 credit hours)

Spring Semester

  • BIOE 570 – Seminar series (1 credit hour)
  • BIOE 574 –Innovation and Introduction to Financial Decision Making (4 credit hours)
  • BIOE 575 – Team Project – part 2 (3 credit hours)
  • Technical Electives – choose BIOE 400- or 500-level courses in consultation with advisor (4-8 credit hours)
  • General Elective – choose 400- or 500-level course in consultation with advisor (4 credit hours)

 Bioinstrumentation

This concentration focuses on medical imaging devices, trains engineers to be industry leaders by combining rigorous graduate-level engineering coursework with fundamental business training on issues that confront professionals who develop products for biomedical imaging, medical diagnostics, genomics, and tools used in life science research.
