Minors

To officially declare a minor, you must complete the Statement of Intent to Enroll in a Campus-Approved Minor, obtain the signature of an advisor in the department offering the minor, and return the signed form to the College of Engineering (COE) Academic Programs Office in Room 206 Engineering Hall. Some minors have special requirements that must be met prior to completing the form. Please consult the website of the department offering the minor for further information. Please refer to the Statement of Intent to Enroll in a Campus-Approved Minor. This form may be submitted after 30 hours have been earned. Please refer to the Provost Office website for further information on declaring a campus-approved minor.

Bioengineering minor
(for non-Bioengineering majors)

The Bioengineering minor is essentially a minor in Life Sciences and is, therefore, of little benefit to non-engineering students. More information about the Bioengineering minor is available on the Minor webpage.

Students may obtain and complete the Statement of Intent to Enroll in a Campus-Approved Minor. The form must be signed by a BIOE advisor -- Dr. Pool or Kerri Green -- before submitting to the College of Engineering Academic Programs Office in Room 206 Engineering Hall.

Business minor

To apply for the minor in Business Administration, review the information located on the College of Business website.

To apply, you must have completed or be concurrently enrolled in the four prerequisite courses listed on the website. After completing the four prerequisite courses and having earned at least 60 credit hours, complete the Statement of Intent to Enroll in a Campus-Approved Minor and apply for the minor with the College of Business, Department of Business Administration, in Room 350 Wohlers Hall.

Applications are accepted for fall term only. Applications are only accepted during the month of January of the preceding fall term and are reviewed by the College of Business in February. The College of Business will screen all statements and approve a select number of applicants to pursue the Business minor. You will be contacted at your Illinois email address by the College of Business regarding the decision, usually in late February.

Please Note: Registration for most upper-level BADM courses is restricted to Business majors during priority registration. If there are spots left after priority registration or the date the College of Business sets, the course will open up for registration by non-majors. If you have been approved for a minor in business, you should be given access to register during priority registration with the majors.

Chemistry minor

Consult the list of course requirements to obtain the Chemistry minor.

Bioengineering students can most easily fulfill the requirements in Option 2, given the Chemistry requirements in the Bioengineering curriculum. For those with AP credit for CHEM 102 and CHEM 104 who received waivers for CHEM 103, you do not have to take these courses to obtain the minor. You may select another Chemistry course to count for the credit needed. You must complete 20 hours total, and six of the 20 total hours must be at the 300 level or above.

You may declare the Chemistry minor by completing the Statement of Intent to Enroll in a Campus-Approved Minor. Then go to the Chemistry Department, Room 168 Noyes Lab, to have the form signed. Return the signed form to COE Academic Programs office in Room 206 Engineering Hall.

Please Note: CHEM 494 is listed as restricted to Chemistry majors. Once you are approved for the minor, this restriction is lifted. After you have declared the Chemistry minor, you may contact Kathy Dysart in 203 MSEB or at 333-1440 to get permission to enroll in CHEM 494 if you have difficulty registering.

Mathematics minor

See the list of course requirements to obtain the Math minor.

You should have successfully completed the calculus sequence before applying for the minor. To apply for the Math minor, you should complete the Statement of Intent to Enroll in a Campus-Approved Minor and obtain the signature of a Math advisor in 313 Altgeld Hall. Return the signed form to the COE Academic Programs office in Room 206 Engineering Hall.
